Coursework

Below are three examples of coursework I’ve done in the Bachelor of Education.

Inclusion Statement in Teaching and Learn 2

In my second semester of the Bachelor of Education, I took part two of the Teaching and Learning course. And as its final assignment, I was asked to write an inclusion statement. The paragraph was designed to help me articulate what I learned about one of the main pillars of the class – incorporating inclusion in a classroom. I weaved in the Secwepemc pedagogy I hope to incorporate into my practice with an inclusive community-driven classroom. Check it out below:

Place-Based Learning in Social Studies Methods

Another class I attended in the second semester of the Bachelor of Education program was Social Studies Methods. One of the assignments tasked me with creating a visual project of a place-based learning lesson for my future students. I decided to record myself hiking to the top of Kenna Carwright Nature Park in Kamloops to get a birds-eye view of the meeting of the rivers — the North and South Thompson Rivers — the meaning behind the city’s name (Tk’emlúps), while explaining the connections to the BC curriculum. Be the Expert (Circle of Courage) in Child Development & Teaching

In the first semester of the Bachelor of Education, I became acquainted with the Circle of Courage. And in my Child Development & Teaching course, I had to “Be the Expert” on it. I wrote a summary of Dr. Martin Brokenleg’s work and taught it to a group of my peers, including the circle’s four quadrants — belong, mastery, independence, and generosity — as well as other aspects, like the ultimate goal of building resilience in each person.
