Curriculum Connections

The British Columbia K-12 curriculum is the basis that guides what public school students are taught and learn in the province. That being said, it’s also the main resource that teachers use to build units, lessons, and activities. From my estimation, the BC curriculum is very progressive, focusing on holistic teaching — the “Big Ideas” and “Learning Standards” are inherently open-ended and allow for different methods, paths, and excursions, depending on the teacher, students, and region. Although the content is very important, the curriculum attempts to bolster students in all facets — mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. I feel fortunate to potentially teach in a province that values this sort of education approach.
