The Professional Standards for BC Educators set clear expectations for teachers practicing in the province. Student safety, well-being, and holistic development are at the center of these standards, and teachers are expected to adhere to the guidelines set out to ensure these non-negotiable elements. Ranging from teachers’ ethics, their propensity for collaboration with students, parents, and co-workers, and their continued professional learning and development, the standards are well laid out and articulated, leaving little ambiguity or vagueness. As a teacher candidate, these standards have been emphasized since day one at Thompson Rivers University, and I fully intend to respect them throughout my career.
